LONDON-BRUSSELS - JULY 1989 - PART 2

LONDON-BRUSSELS - JULY 1989 - PART 2

18JUL1989

As soon as we completed our Subuh prayer, we had to say goodbye to the mosque officials –the imam and the Burmese bilal as well as thanked them for the one night stay at the mosque. At around 6am, we stopped at the small post office nearby the railway station to mail our postcard from Brussels. We had our breakfast (only bread and eggs) at Gare central, the railway central station in Brussels. Cost us 153 BEF for two. Luckily, I brought the travel guide book which I borrowed from the local library in London in order to get some travelling tips whilst we were in Belgium. The book also helped me to use the right word to order the right food at the restaurant. We tried to avoid eating any non-halal food.

We bought one day travel card 280BEF. Our first destination was the Heysel Stadium . Anyone can recall what was the worst event recorded for the football at this stadium in 1987? It was the football tragedy where numbers of football fans died before the match between Juventus and Liverpool teams.

Then, we passed the mini Europe Village. Both of us did not enter the village as it was too costly. We only bought some souvenier outside the area for remembrance. In the city of Brussels, we had the chance to see the EU headquarters (European Community) where you will be able to see all flags of European countries including the Union Jack.

In terms of cleanliness around the town, we were impressed as compared to some part of London streets. At the place known as Botanique, at last, we managed to get a room at the Youth Hostel.
