My last raya in UK (London)

6 May1989 – 1 syawal …H

It was Saturday. Thought it will be my last hari raya (eid mubarak) abroad (in UK) before i completed my study.

As usual, we went to Malaysia Hall to perform the prayer very early in the morning. It started at 9 am. We apologized each other after the prayer and followed by breakfast prepared by the cafe owner at Malaysia Hall compliment of Malaysia Students Department (MSD),London and few individuals.

11am..we went to nearby house in Central London- Abang Din (who worked at the MSD) ..wow..main menu- mee rebus!

then to Azmil’s house. This was the tradition we did when we celebrated the festives in London as that was the best time to visit friends and spent time together. Above all, we were treated with delicious the home-cooked food for the celebration. once a year ! Far away from home ie families and the close one.

Sunday 07May1989

My housemates agreed to host an Open House to all Malaysian friends from the same college. I took the opportunity to invite my only Asean muslim friend from the same college, Zarinah from Singapore. She took Psychology studies.

We had our gathering at our house up to lunch time. We subsequently went to another open house. We were invited to Din and Fuad’s house. It was an enjoyable day with lots of food. We had the chance to her some Hari raya songs from Malaysia.

At night, i had no choice but to rest and did some revision as my final year exam is forthcoming in early Jun 1989.

08May 1989 – 3syawal.

The eid mubarak celebration stopped for a while on the 3nd day as i have to go to college to do further revision for the final

exam.

09May 1989

Visited my friend at East Ham and the same time celebrated raya with him. Haniff- the law student from LSE

(London School of Economics). He is one of the famous lawyers in town. Anyone recognised him?

After eating, we had something different. We played Takraw(one of the favorite sports in Malaysia using the rattan ball) together

New Year 1988

01January1988

This is my third year in London (counting by the year from 1986).

Had a chance to take a new mode of transport in London- The Docklands light railway. It is a new type of train just like the underground train (London tube) but slightly new and only operate outside the London underground. Like a monorail so to speak (as compared to the one in Kuala Lumpur). I stopped at the Island Garden (one of the stations under the new Docklands light railway which operates to London City Airport and area nearby the Greenwich).

It was a friday and again, we went to Malaysian hall for the prayer.

It was a new year and we had the chance to enjoy ourselves by watching the movie entitled “Innerspace” at Cannon, Tottenham Court Road.

02January 1988

Like a new resolution. Finding a new house to rent. We went to East Ham Town centre. Later, we went to Upton Park (the home ground of West Ham Football Club) and lastly managed to locate a new place to rent at Dorset Road.

03January 1988

To Richmond where the TESL college was(all future English teachers were trained here) known as St Mary college.

By chance, i met my secondary school junior, Noor Hadif who also joined the TESL course there.

What a coincidence during the gathering organised by the college and Malaysia students association.
